Setting Up Your Newsreader
The newsreader can be a more convenient way for you to access SAO Newsgroups if you regularly use one computer. It can be especially useful if you are not connected to the internet all the time. The major Newsreaders supported by SAO are Microsoft Windows Live Mail and Mail, Outlook Express(version 6), the Thunderbird Newsreader and Netscape Mail and News(version 7.1), although most other major news clients will work.Instructions for setting up Mail, Outlook Express, Thunderbird and Netscape are located below:
- Setting up Windows Live Mail
- Setting up Windows Mail
- Setting up Outlook Express 6.0
- Setting up Thunderbird
- Setting up Netscape 7
Note: Since 2009, we have noticed that in some newsgroups accessed via newsreaders you may see 'anonymous' posts. This appears to be a communication problem between Blackboard and the custom built newsreader software that ITS developed for us. Please disregard these posts - they are easy to spot as they have come from the previous semester!
Other known problems with newsreaders are discussed here.
