Angular Frequency

The angular frequency, ω, of an oscillating wave with period , T, is the quantity:

$ \omega = \frac{2\pi}{T} $

Angular frequency is related to the wave frequency ( f – the number of waves passing a point per second) by noting:

$ f = \frac{1}{T} $ so that $ \omega=2\pi f $

Harmonic waves are often written in the compact form:

$ f(t) = A\sin(\omega t)  $ or $ f(t) = A\cos(\omega t) $

where A is the amplitude of the wave and t is time.
