Angular Frequency

The angular frequency, ω, of an oscillating wave with period , T, is the quantity:

$\omega = \frac{2\pi}{T}$

Angular frequency is related to the wave frequency ( f - the number of waves passing a point per second) by noting:

$f = \frac{1}{T}$ so that $\omega=2\pi f$

Harmonic waves are often written in the compact form:

$f(t) = A\sin(\omega t)$ or $f(t) = A\cos(\omega t)$

where A is the amplitude of the wave and t is time.
