Centre for Molecular Simulation

Molecular Dynamics Software Development

Supervisor:

Dr Jesper Hansen and Prof Billy Todd

Suitable year level:

3rd-5th year

Project Description

An important part of our research is based on computer simulations of molecules and atoms. We seek a student to extent and/or optimise our software package. There are many possibilities depending on the student's interests: General optimisation, parallelisation of parts of the code, extending the functionality, making flexible "stand alone" programs etc. A part of the project will likely include using simple GNU software development tools under Linux. We will also welcome any ideas that the student may have.

Expectations/Assessment

The student will be taught how to analyse and profile more complex computer software packages; very relevant training for future programmers. Linux at the user level will be acquired as a natural part of the project. The project will finish with a student report describing the improvements.

Pre-requisite Knowledge

Good working knowledge of C is essential.
