My PhD thesis focuses on understanding the population of pulsars in the universe. This project consists of two main parts: searches for pulsars with the MeerKAT telescope in South Africa and the Parkes telescope, and comprehensive analyses of published pulsars. Due to the ever-growing number of known pulsars, studies of the pulsar population (e.g. to determine evolution) must be revisited to determine accuracy with current data. These studies can then be used to optimise pulsar surveys with new telescopes, such as MeerKAT. I also work on the MeerTIME and PPTA projects, making high precision observations of pulsars in order to detect low-frequency gravitational waves.
