Outlook Express Problem

The newsreader says there are thousands of messages, but I see a lot less

This problem is caused by an issue with the Swinburne Newsserver. The problem is due to the Swinburne server sending incorrectly indexed messages to Outlook Express when you download or synchronise your newsgroups.

This can be a problem when syncrhonising your newsgroups if you have restricted the number of news headers you download during each synchronisation. To check this setting, follow this process:

1. Start Outlook Express
2. From the Tools menu, choose Options
3. Switch to the Read tab and check the the "Get [300] headers at a time" in the News section.
If you did have the "Get [300] headers at a time" box checked then you will most likely be missing messages. You need to have this box unchecked before you initially download messages. To delete and re-create your account and re-download newsgroups, follow this process:

1. Start Outlook Express
2. Right click on your ilearn.swin.edu.au and choose Remove Account
3. You will be prompted to remove your account. Click Yes
4. Now follow the Setting up Outlook Express guide to re-create your account and re-subscribe to the newsgroups
