Outlook Express: Reset a Newsgroup

Due to current problems with the Blackboard news server and News Reader access, it may become necessary to reset a newsgroup in your Outlook Express setup. The best method for doing this is listed below:


1. Start Outlook Express
2. Right click on the news group you wish to reset and click on Properties
3. This will open the Properties window for the newsgroup. It should look like this:
4. Click on the Reset button in the Properties window. Another window will popup asking you to confirm your option, click Yes
5. Click on the Delete button in the Properties window. Another window will popup asking you to confirm your option, click Yes
6. Click on the Remove Messages button in the Properties window. Anotherwindow will popup asking you to confirm your option, click Yes
7. Click on the Compact button in the Properties window.
8. You will have now deleted all the local copies of the news group messages. There should be a File Size of about 58 KB and 0% wasted space. Click on OK to close the Properties window.
9. When you return to the main Outlook Express window, all the messages should have been deleted from the newsgroup.
10. Clicking on the newsgroup will re-download all the messages from the Blackboard news server. The number of messages should now return to normal.
