SPH Simulations of Accretion Disks and Narrow Rings
S.T.Maddison, J.R.Murray & J.J.Monaghan
Abstract
We modelled a two dimensional viscous SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics)
disk and compared our results with that of the Lynden-Bell & Pringle theory
(1974). After several rotations a non-axisymmetric instability developed at
the inner disk edge. To investigate further, we reduced the model to a
single ring of SPH particles, which is actually inconsistent with SPH as it
assumes a smoothed initial state. The stability analysis confirms what the
simulations show.
