Welcome to the homepage of the
LARGE-SCALE MILLIMETRE MAPPING WORKSHOP
to be held at the
Centre for Astronomy & Astrophysics
Swinburne University of Technology
on
June 12 & 13 2008
Rationale
The aim of this workshop is to bring together expertise in large-scale millimetre mapping and data analysis techniques from the Australian astronomy community and their overseas collaborators. We will specifically be focusing on:
(1) presenting recent results from such molecular cloud observational projects as e.g. the 'Delta Quadrant Survey' (DQS), LMC and NANTEN2 studies
(2) discussing analysis techniques suitable for decomposing/quantifying molecular cloud structure and
(3) discussing future projects and system developments.
NOTE: If you would like your project pages linked from here, send me details.
Programme
The programme will consist of 20-minute talks (+ 10 minutes of question time) split into 3 sessions: Science Results, Analysis Techniques and Future Directions. The emphasis will be on informal talks to facilitate active discussions, for which there will be ample time. The programme can be found here . Please confirm your attendance and talk title via email to Indra (address below) by 1 May 2008. Please submit abstracts by June 1.

Location & Travel
Swinburne University of Technology is located in Hawthorn, a suburb of Melbourne ~7 km East of the city centre. Melbourne Tullamarine International airport is ~25 km NW of the city centre. The only public transport available from the airport is the Skybus Super Shuttle which runs every ~10-20 minutes from the airport to Southern Cross train station on Spencer Street in the city (and vice versa), taking ~20-30 mins. A taxi from the airport to the University costs of order $65 AUD. The closest train station to the University is Glenferrie, which is actually located on the campus and served by the Belgrave, Lilydale and Alamein lines; trains run from Flinders Street station in the city to Glenferrie every ~15 minutes during the day. NOTE: Try not to fly to Melbourne Avalon airport (this is where Jetstar flies into from Sydney) - it is twice as distant from the city as Tullamarine.
Venue
The workshop will be held in AR205, the meeting room of the Centre for Astrophysics on the first floor of the AR building (above Haddon's cafe & ~3 min walk from Glenferrie station) on the Hawthorn campus of Swinburne University. For more details, see here.
Accommodation
Accommodation is available at Richmond Hill Hotel in East Richmond (equidistant between the city & the University) at a University-discounted rate of $103.50 AUD per room per night, including breakfast. Note that the hotel also has budget 'backpacker-style' accommodation available. The hotel is in proximity to East Richmond train station, from where a train to the University or city takes ~ 5mins. Transport times can be checked here. Please direct hotel bookings to our centre administrator, Carolyn Cliff (ccliff AT groupwise DOT swin DOT edu DOT au) and cc them to me (ibains AT astro DOT swin DOT edu DOT au). Please give a subject heading to the email of 'Large-scale mm mapping workshop'.
Proceedings
The proceedings of the workshop will be submitted for publication in PASA.

Registration
Please email Indra Bains at the above address to confirm your attendance and talk title by May 1 2008. Please submit abstracts by June 1. Lunch vouchers will be provided by the Centre for use at Haddon's cafe on campus.
Seminars
The Centre enjoys hearing seminars from our visitors and as such is usually willing to pay for a night's accommodation (subject to approval from the seminar organisers). So please feel free to stay an extra day or so and give a seminar!
ATCA Science Day
Note that ATCA science day is being held the day before the MM workshop, on 11 June, at ATNF headquarters in Marsfield, Sydney.
