Project Description

Swinburne has entered into an R & D relationship with Cognitive Drug Research Ltd from the UK to design a road side and workplace computerised battery of psychological tests to detect impairment for driving/work. It is expected that the final tools in this project will involve a PDA which has software that briefly measures the fitness to drive a car and a touch screen based computer to measure work fitness. In terms of work fitness obvious applications are for individuals who operate heave machinery such as cranes and trucks etc. The cognitive measures will assess impairment caused by all factors such as illicit and prescription drugs, fatigue, and depression. The R & D team will assist in the development and testing of all aspects of this project.

Expectations/Assessment

A technical report describing the various parameters of the hardware/software and the research that underpins the final product.

Pre-requisite Knowledge

Nil but a knowledge of software/hardware would be preferable. The ability to interact as a group and with groups such as Vicroads e.g., independent to the university is desirable.
