Dr. Amr Hassan

I am a computational scientist, with over 10 years experience, particularly interested in interdisciplinary research between different scientific fields and computer science specifically utilizing Scientific Data Visualization, High-Performance Computing, distributed Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), pattern recognition, and Artificial Neural Network techniques to facilitate scientific discoveries in the big data era. My eResearch experience and scientific computing knowledge enabled me to work within different scientific fields. These fields include: computational fluid dynamics, 3D scanning and surface reconstruction, and recently astronomy.

I have a PhD in Astrophysics and Supercomputing, M.Sc. (by research) in Scientific Computing, and B.Sc. in Scientific Computing. Currently, I am working as gSTAR Projects and Engagement Support Leader. My role is to support operations of the gSTAR High Performance Computing (HPC) facility to provide enhanced user support in order to: increase uptake and usage of this facility by the national astronomy research community; accelerate research output and discovery; and facilitate training to students and early career researchers in this important new area of computation.
