From: Steven Tingay Subject: SKA simulations meeting at Swinburne University of Technology, May 23 Date: Sun, 27 Apr 2003 16:09:56 +1000 (EST) Hello everyone, Thanks for expressing interest in attending the SKA simulation meeting to be held at the Swinburne University of Technology on May 23. This email is to let you know of a few organisational details. If you require any additional information or have comments on the preliminary program (below), please let me know. I look forward to seeing you all at Swinburne! Cheers, Steven The meeting location: --------------------- Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing 4th floor, Applied Sciences Building Corner Serpells Lane and Burwood Rd Swinburne University of Technology Hawthorn, Melbourne I've attached a map of the university campus that shows the location of the Applied Sciences Building. The meeting time: ----------------- Friday, May 23, 10:30am. Getting to and from the airport: ------------------------------- Taxi is probably easiest. Alternatively, buses run from the airport to Spencer St train station in the Melbourne CBD. Then you can catch a train to the Glenferrie station, right on the university campus. This is much cheaper than a taxi and if you get good connections, can be just as quick. Please let me know your flight arrival and departure times and I will see if I can coordinate taxis for groups of you. Accomodation: ------------- There is good accomodation at the Glenferrie Hotel, approximately 5 minutes walk from the Applied Sciences Building. It is not cheap at $145 per night (inc GST) but there is a corporate rate of $130 per night (inc GST) that some of you may be entitled to. See their website at http://www.glenferriehotel.com.au/ Morning, afternoon tea, and lunch -------------------------------- Will be provided on Friday May 23. Preliminary program ------------------- Here is the preliminary program. In the morning we will have a colloqium by Richard Schilizzi on the international SKA project. Then after lunch I've put a bunch of short talks on the various current activities in SKA simulation in Australia, so that we can all come up to speed with what is going on. If I've put you down for a short talk, please let me know if the title and duration are ok. Following the talks I hope that we can have some informal discussion and explore ideas for how we can collaborate as a group in the future and coordinate our efforts efficiently. 10:30 to 11:00 Pre-meeting coffee 11:00 to 11:05 Welcome by the Director of the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing (Prof. Matthew Bailes) 11:05 to 12:00 The SKA - an international perspective (Prof. Richard Schilizzi, International Director of the SKA) 12:00 to 13:00 Break for lunch 13:00 to 13:15 The Swinburne SKA simulation program (Dr. Steven Tingay) 13:15 to 13:30 The ATNF SKA simulation program (Dr. Mark Wieringa) 13:30 to 13:45 Current status of LOFAR (Prof. Frank Briggs) 13:45 to 14:00 Data processing and computational requirements for SKA simulations and observations (Dr. Richard Ogley) 14:00 to 14:15 SKA configuration studies in AIPS++ (Dr. Maxim Voronkov) 14:15 to 14:30 Simulations of the cylindrical reflector concept for the SKA (Mr Aaron Chippendale) 14:30 to 14:45 Producing models of the radio sky (Dr Daisuke Kawata) 14:45 to 15:00 Formation of the SSWG (Prof. Richard Schilizzi) 15:00 to 15:30 Break for coffee 15:30 to ----- Informal discussions, opportunities for collaboration
