Netscape 7.1 Problem
The newsreader says there are
thousands of messages, but I see a lot less
This problem is caused by an issue with the Blackboard News server. The
problem is due to the Blackboard server sending incorrectly indexed messages
to Netscape Mail & News when you download or synchronise your newsgroups.
This can be a problem when syncrhonising your newsgroups if you have restricted
the number of news headers you download during each synchronisation. To check
this setting, follow this process:
| 1. |
Start Netscape Mail & News
|
| 2. |
Select ilearn.swin.edu.au and click on the
View settings for this account
|
 |
| 3. |
Select Server Settings underneath the
ilearn.swin.edu.au server. Check the
Ask me before downloading more than [500] Messages checkbox.
|
 |
If you did have this box checked, then you would have been asked if you wanted
to download more than 500 headers when downloading messages from each
newsgroup. If you answered "No" to this question, then you will most likely be
missing some messages.
The only solution to this problem is to delete your account, re-create your
account and then re-subscribe to the newsgroups ensuring that you always
download all the headers. To do this follow this process:
| 1. |
Start Netscape Mail & News
|
| 2. |
Select ilearn.swin.edu.au and click on the
View settings for this account
|
 |
| 3. |
Click on the Remove Account button to delete the account
|
 |
| 1. |
Now follow the Setting up Netscape process
for re-creating your account and re-subscribing to your newsgroups
