Netscape: Reset a Newsgroup

If you have problems following the instructions below, please email helpdesk@astro.swin.edu.au. Be sure to describe your problem in detail along with your machine type, Operating system and version and name of the software that is causing the problem.

Due to current problems with the Blackboard news server and News Reader access, it may become necessary to reset a newsgroup in your Netscape setup. The best method for doing this is listed below:

1. Start Netscape News Reader

2. Right click on the news group you wish to reset and click on Unsubscribe

3. You will then be asked to confirm this, click OK

4. Now select the ilearn.swin.edu.au newserver again, and then in the right window, click on Manage Newsgroup Subscriptions

5. Scroll down the list of available newsgroups and find the newsgroup that you unsubscribed from in step 2. Check the Subscribe check box, then click on OK

6. This will return you to the main window. Now the correct number of messages should appear in the for the newsgroup. You can check this by logging into Blackboard and looking at the number of messages that appear in Browser Mode.
