Proof of ID

All students are required to provide proof of identity. The purpose of the requirement is to provide the University with the means of accurately identifying students thus ensuring compliance with the University's reporting requirements. Australian Government legislation requires that all new students submit proof of their identity. As a consequence, your enrolment will not be processed unless proof of identity has been provided. (All re-enroling students who first enroled with SAO prior to 2004 and have not yet previously submitted proof of ID paperwork must do so before their enrolments can be confirmed.)

The proof of identity required must be a certified photocopy of one of the following:

  • Birth Certificate,
  • Extract of Birth Certificate,
  • Passport, or
  • Citizenship papers

Please note that holders of an Australian Permanent Resident Visa must provide a certified copy of their passport providing evidence of that Visa. If you are an Australian but were not born in Australia and are applying for FEE-HELP, a certified copy of your Certificate of Australian citizenship, or passport, must be forwarded as proof of eligibility.

A certified photocopy is a photocopy that has been verified - signed and stamped with an official stamp - by a person in any of the following positions of authority:

  • a minister of religion,
  • a medical doctor,
  • a pharmacist,
  • a member of the police force, or
  • a notary public.

Scanned (digital) certified copies of these documents in PDF format will be accepted via the online application website. Hardcopy versions sent via post will not be accepted.
