AstroFest 2007 - Logistics
Because Quanah is a small town (population approximately 3,000) and Comanche Springs is 37 miles away, logistics including accommodation, meals and transportation need to be carefully considered.
Getting to Quanah
The nearest airport to Quanah is Wichita Falls, about 80 miles (or a 1h20m drive) away. Other major airports include Dallas (220 miles or a 3h30m drive away) and Oklahoma City (195 miles or a 3h10m drive away). All airports have car rental facilities and we strongly recommend that people arrange their own transportation. See the
location page for maps.
Accommodation
Since the daytime lectures will be held in Quanah, we have arranged a group booking at the Best Western in Quanah. However, night observing will be at Comanche Springs. If you are keen to stay up all night observing, you may prefer to stay closer to Comanche Springs and travel in the mornings back to Quanah for the lectures. For details about accommodation options, see the
accommodation page.
Meals
Because both Quanah and Crowell are small towns, resturants generally close quite early. Therefore AstroFest will arrange dinner each night, either in Quanah or out at Comanche Springs. If you're staying at the Quanah Best Western, your hotel charge includes breakfast. Morning and afternoon tea as well as lunch will be provided in Quanah as part of the registration fee.
Local Transportation
Because people may being staying in both Quanah and Comanche Springs (and possibly even Crowell) and some people might like to stay up well into the night observing while others might find sleep a more attractive option, we strongly recommend that you arrange your own local transportation. Car hire is available from all the major airports. For those without a car, we will either try to arrange car-pooling, or if necessary we will arrange to hire a bus.
