Example 1: 6dF Galaxy Survey

A fully interactive wedge diagram showing the 3-d locations (RA, Dec., z) of galaxies from the 6dF Galaxy survey (Jones et al. 2005). 49377 galaxy positions, with 0<=v<=15 000 km s-1 and Dec.<=0o, are plotted as white dots. Declination lines are drawn at intervals of 15o. Note that billboarded textures are used for the RA labels - they rotate to remain directed towards the viewer regardless of the camera orientation. Large-scale structures are visible more clearly in an interactive 3-d version of this data, than in a 2-d static projection.
