Getting to New Zealand
Most flights into New Zealand arrive in Auckland (airport code AKL). In March 2006 the cheapest flights from America and Europe were operated by Air New Zealand and fly via Los Angeles then direct to Auckland (or, if you're lucky, via some tropical pacific island paradise). From South America Lan Chile operate a direct route to Auckland from Santiago, Chile. From
Europe there are several airlines that fly to
New Zealand via Asia. Note: when
departing Auckland airport there is a 25
NZ$ departure tax that is not included in
your airticket (they take credit cards and
cash for this).
Getting to Rotorua
Rotorua is on North Island of New Zealand. From Auckland it is possible to drive to Rotorua (3-3.5hrs; 145 miles; 233 km) or fly (~45mins). If you drive, please note that most New Zealanders (`kiwis')
drive on the left hand side. Flights to
Rotorua (airport code ROT) are operated
by Air
New Zealand and cost around 200 NZ$. The flight to Rotorua may be cheaper if combined with your
international flight.
The airport is 9km from the city. A taxi to your hotel will cost NZ$25 (approx). Shuttle buses are available and fares start from NZ$14 one way. Or it is possible to take the City Ride (local bus). This runs Mon -Sat except public hoildays. It will cost you NZ$2 each way.
All passengers departing Rotorua Airport are required to pay a Development Levy of NZ$5.
Accomodation
We are not organising any accomodation
for conference attendees, however, we
negotiated a discounted rate at the Ibis
and Novotel (see first 2 hotels below). We
have also listed some of the other accomodation available in Rotorua. We have included a map (which covers roughly 2 x 3.5km) and, to help you get your bearings, the conference centre is at the corner of Fenton and Haupapa Streets.
